So many things are changing these days.
And they are changing so very fast.
You’ve all noticed it, no doubt.
The kids have been home since Friday, my husband working from home since the beginning of this week. I’ve taken my practice online, too, starting on Wednesday.
What a fantastic thing it is that we are able to do those things.
Work from home, that is.
Learn from home.
Engage with our teams from home.
Get meetings done from home.
Have some of the most powerful conversations with your clients from home.
All of it.
Right?
But that’s not what this is about today.
I wanted to tell you about something else that happened.
It happened right after dinner. We were almost done cleaning up, we had these amazing rice noodles with veggies and chicken. So good.
But that’s not the point, I digress.
The hubby went back downstairs (where he set up his “office space” in one of the spare bedrooms in the basement only to come back up to show me something.
He showed me this email he had received from the owners of his gym.
“It was a challenge to read that through my tears. That meant more than you know, Jon.”
And the other one right underneath:
“Jon, that just made me tear up. We appreciate your support! Seriously, this situation is so overwhelming but people like you in the community are so good!! We are going to be providing at home workouts for you to do. So, no excuses ;)”
His face, almost tearing up having read those.
Naturally, I wanted to know what this amazing email was that he wrote them both.
His response, I told them I wasn’t planning on suspending my membership, even if we had to socially distance for a couple of weeks. He said he had seen people posting on Facebook that they are going to drop their gym membership for a couple of months until things settled down. Happy to chip in to get them through this so that we can meet again this summer.
His words, not mine.
He had no clue what that meant.
No clue at all.
Nor why I had a tear in my eye at that point.
Talking about gym memberships – and let me tell you – he LOVES his gym — He stood up for the people that helped him be as healthy as he is these days.
As stress-relieved as they come.
And let it be known, the girls and I point out his arms to him ALL the time.
And we have countless pictures to prove it, too.
But my point is – By doing that, he stood up for every small business owner out there.
Including the person that sleeps on the other side of the bed he sleeps in, his wife.
Without even knowing it, without thinking through or planning the impact – he stood up for me.
He said I am here to support you, I am here to help carry the burden.
In the strangest way possible – but oh so powerful.
He showed up.
He showered me with love.
And what I heard him say, without him every uttering the exact words: “We are all in this together and we’ll figure it out. And I am happy to take the short end of the stick for a little while if that’s what have to do so that collectively we rise to the top. ”
The strangest way possible, but man, so powerful.
How are you supporting your spouse these days, in small, unexpected ways?
Make it good.
