It was almost in a whisper that she said it.
On the phone, during an initial phone consultation, a few weeks back.
“To be honest, the concerns, and all the struggles that we’ve had lately,” she said, “aren’t new by any means.
They’ve just gotten worse over the last month or two.
I bet you hear that a lot, huh?”
Truth be told, I do.
And it’s not just from my clients or potential clients on the phone – This has been the topic of conversations all over the place.
How this crazy situation is like a magnifying glass.
Making all the things that were already there – not better as you’d wish – but worse.
Bigger and more prominent.
More pronounced in more ways than we’d like.
And while none of us voluntarily went searching for it (the magnifying glass, that is), many are seeing the true colors that it provides, whether they asked for it or not.
Because we have more time on top of each other than we’ve ever had before.
At least before, there were the business trips.
A little escape here and there.
At least before, there were coffee hours & happy hours and game nights with the besties.
At least before, there were weekend getaways or capable caretakers to share the load.
Now, we have none of that.
As we were getting close to ending the conversation, she sighed with relief:
“Thank you. Thank you for taking the time to speak with me. Even this has already been so helpful. I’ll talk with my spouse and we’ll be in touch.”
They talked.
They got back to me.
We started working and moving the needle – week by week, we got them closer together.
Closer on the same page.
Hearing each other.
Understanding deeply like never before.
