These are the words she said as we were wrapping up the 30 min initial consultation on the phone.
Do what, you ask?
Do a phone consult with the potential clients before bringing them in for a session, making sure that I’m a good fit for them.
And she’s not the first one to ever bring this up.
I have a feeling she won’t be the last either.
I’ve been doing these for years.
Offering these complimentary phone consultations to each one of the spouses.
They’ve been invaluable.
Truth be told, I don’t know why everyone isn’t doing that.
But I know one thing.
I know I can’t be a good fit for everyone who reaches out to work with me.
But that’s not a problem.
If you found me, and we talk, and I turn out NOT to be able to help you with whatever it is that you need help with —
Or you are looking for an approach that I know nothing about —
Or I just end up not being a fit on a human-to-human level because I talk funny, or I remind you of your mother (or worse even, your mother-in-law) (yes, that actually happened once!) —
I am happy to refer you to one of my skilled colleagues.
No problem at all.
For me, the thing about the initial phone consultations is that you two, you and your spouse, are able to find – and GET – the help that you need, and if that means that you end up working with someone else, that is just fine.
Not a problem at all.
The mission I’m on – still the same.
