If you ARE celebrating today – Happy Valentine’s Day!
Here’s what NEVER gets old.
As I went to get snacks for the office, middle of the afternoon, seeing an elderly gentleman, checking out in front of me, with a beautiful card and a yellow potted plant.
For his sweetheart.
With a smile on his face, he was there, on his own, getting all the stuff.
From the looks of it, it seemed like she must have not been feeling well.
This is what doesn’t ever get old.
Watching practically EVERY man in the store (the 6’2″ and everyone under that), walking around, picking through the flowers, making their way through the cards.
All the men that supposedly don’t know how to be romantic with their sweetie.
They are all doing it today.
All I want to do – if it weren’t all that inappropriate and didn’t include a conversation of me including what I do for a living so as to take away the awkward) – is go up to them, pat them on the back, and tell them how sweet that is.
Say ‘Atta boy! and send them on their way with an extra thing of really good chocolate or a gift card to a restaurant of his choice.
All I want to do is encourage them, and acknowledge that what they are doing means something.
That it certainly (I can only imagine) means something to their lady.
(Or so I hope.)
But that it’s also meaningful and fun for those of us that just get to see it.
And then there is a part of me that also wants to remind them that the store sells flowers all year around
Cards, too.
And to try to talk them into doing the V’s Day thing on a random Monday in April or June or October.
Just to see what happens.
I’d say that with a smirk on my face, of course – and then we’d laugh.
That’s how I imagine it.
Anyway – I hope this makes you smile, too.
And that – regardless of what your plans are for today – we can all share in the joy that is already in existence.
Now, if that’s not you —
You may have a love/hate relationship with this day.
I don’t need to know what your reasons are.
Or how that came about.
No matter where you find yourself today, know that I’m sending you my love.
And I want you to know- if there are things you two need to do to get things back on track, you can do those things.
You’ve done other things that were hard in the past.
I’m here, rooting for you.
Screaming from the sidelines:
YOU CAN DO THIS.
Ready to support you in that journey.
Know that you’re not alone.
And if you can, remind yourself even of just one reason.
One reason why you love your husband.
Your wife.
Five would be better.
Ten would be best.
But one is enough if that’s all you can muster.
Sending my love to you on this day.
Ps: there’s likely a person in your life that needs to see this.
For the love of LOVE, share it with them today.
If nothing else, it will put a smile on their face because someone thought of them.
Someone cared enough.
And this is me saying thank you on their behalf in advance.
And by all means, don’t let this stop you.
Because it’s not true this Valentine’s Day.
You can totally tackle it day in, day out.
Make it Valentine’s Day.
All year around.
