Where It All Started

where it all started

Where it All Started: This Place

I get to be reminded of that day daily now.

It hasn’t always been the case.

But –

This is where it all started.

What, you may ask?

The first time my hubby and I went out, before we were ever officially a couple, was to this place.

We were accompanied by two other gents, but hey, no big deal.

We were friends & we’re friendly :))

Where It All Started: The First Time, Undeniably So

You have to understand, I had never been to Famous Dave’s before, so I had no idea what this place was.

So, of course – what do I order?

The safe thing. Clean, easy, lady-like, appropriate. (ha)

A salad.

I am sure the waiting staff must have been like – you crazy – don’t you know why people actually come eat at this place?

Well, no.

I didn’t.

I didn’t have a clue what the place was famous for.

 Disaster Averted. (Win.)

But I’ll tell you something – when the boys’ meals came, I was SO glad that I ordered what I did – because I had never in my life seen so many messy plates, table cloths & napkins.

Oh, and the fingertips.

Let’s not forget about their hands (and faces, really)!

Now, where we lived before when we first got married, we didn’t have one really close by.

It was an effort to make it happen.

Where we live now – every time I leave the house I drive by one of these.

Every time I leave the house I am reminded of that day.

Where It All Started: The Best Part

And the best part, my favorite if I may call it that, was this:

After the meal, because I had no idea where I was (and had no cell phone at the time with fancy map apps on it to help me out), Jon pulled me to the side, brought a map – and explained to me how to get home.

Yes, an old-fashioned paper map of the city, I know.

The ones you fold back together.

But he wanted to make sure I was set.

Based on his recollection, it wasn’t anything to him – but for me, it meant a lot.

I get to be reminded of that day.

It’s so close now we could walk there.

(That’s what we should do for our next date night! – good idea- anyway…)

So – no surprise if I tell you that in the last three months, we got Famous Dave’s more often than in the last ten years combined.

And – guess what?

I don’t get the salad.

We get ALL the deliciousness – the ribs, and the brisket, the pork, the chicken, all the things.

The Gift of a Constant Reminder

And every time we do, I am transported, even if for just a minute, back to that day.

And I remember the smile I had on my face all the way home, driving an old red Honda Civic, until I walked into the apartment and my roommate, without skipping a beat – noticed said undeniable smile and asked about the boy.

So, I gotta ask:

Where was your first date at before you were official?

Where was the start of it all?

What was your favorite part of that outing?

When was the last time you told?

Whom?

Your spouse, of course.

Do it today.
