Let me start by saying that I don’t ever get bored in my work.
Today, I’m sharing a snippet called – What made me laugh.
‘Cause we laugh in here.
A couple times a day at least.
Of course we get work done too.
But it’s not always so heavy.
Sitting here with a couple, I dared to suggest that he had a rulebook packed with things in his back pocket.
The husband, bless his heart, looked at me with a level of confusion I hadn’t seen in a while, and uttered these words:
“What rulebook?
I don’t have a rulebook.”
His wife looked at me in disbelief – and we both laughed out loud.
I couldn’t help it.
So I explained.
Told him that he had all these rules lined up in his brain:
About how to wake up in the morning
About how to clean house
About how to do projects (separately or together)
About when to work and when not to
About how to spend their free time
About what was allowed for them to spend their money on….
And on it went…
The “right” way of doing all these things – according to him, of course.
And that all wasn’t well in this world unless things were going his way.
Unless she subscribed to it and followed all the things.
But the problem was – he had been keeping his rulebook to himself.
Never opened it in front of her.
Had never shared a chapter or two.
All the while, it wasn’t serving either of them.
So, if you are sitting there, convincing yourself, too that you don’t have one of those – Just know you do.
We all do.
The magic is in each one of us bringing those rulebooks to the table, and creating OURS together.
